Every year, the Ninth District Veteran’s Association hosts a Memorial Day parade to honor and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The parade is a time-honored tradition that brings together the community to pay tribute to those who have served and to show their appreciation for their sacrifices.

The parade kicks off with a color guard procession, followed by marching bands, Veterans organizations and local and out of town fire departments and community groups. Residents line Glenville Street/Glenville Road to watch the parade and cheer on the participants as they make their way down to the Glenville Volunteer Fire House. It is a moving and emotional event that serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of honoring and remembering our veterans.

One of the highlights of the parade is the wreath-laying ceremony at the Veterans Memorial adjacent to the GVFD. Veterans and community members gather to pay their respects and honor fallen soldiers by laying wreaths and flowers at the memorial, at which time local and state elected officials make remarks This solemn ceremony is a powerful symbol of the gratitude and respect we have for those who have served our country.

The parade also serves as an opportunity for veterans to come together and connect with one another. It is a time for them to share stories, reminisce about their time in service, and bond over their shared experiences. For many veterans, the parade is a chance to feel a sense of camaraderie and support from their fellow service members and the community.

The Ninth District Veterans Association works tirelessly to organize and coordinate the Memorial Day parade each year. They spend months planning and preparing for the event, securing permits, recruiting participants, and arranging logistics to ensure that everything runs smoothly on the day of the parade. Their dedication and commitment to honoring our veterans is truly inspiring.

In addition to the parade, the Ninth District Veterans Association also hosts a variety of other events and activities throughout the year to support and celebrate veterans. They hold fundraisers, community service projects, and social events to bring veterans together and provide them with the resources and support they need. The association is a vital part of the community and plays a crucial role in honoring and supporting our veterans.
