Board of Selectmen Meeting, September 12, 2024
The Board of Selectmen had their recent meeting on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Of interest:
3. First Selectman's Updates: First Selectman Camillo said he testified the previous week on the proposed sale of Aquarion Water Company. He said the Connecticut legislature had passed a bill allowing for the Regional Water Authority of New Haven to bid on Aquarion, which would allow a government entity to purchase a private company. Camillo said there is concern in Greenwich and other towns because customers of the Regional Water Authority pay 23 percent more than Aquarion customers. He also expressed concern about the status of the Aquarion land in Greenwich if this sale goes through because it could potentially cost the Town $500,000 in tax revenue.
With an estimated loss of half million dollars in tax revenue, we're fairly confident town residents will be making up the difference in one or more formats. We believe rates will inevitably go up. The government is full of mismanagement, and they are not here to help.
7. Public Comment Period: Town resident Heidi Shafranek spoke to the Board via Zoom about the issue with feral cats in Old Greenwich. She reported to the Board while she had not lately seen any new cats on her property, her neighbors reported seeing them with frequency. She said in the past two weeks at least two cats had been reported at Tod’s Point with one possibly injured and the other emaciated. Shafranek said another extremely thin cat had been seen on her neighbor’s property and another neighbor found a dead cat in her yard that had been mauled by another animal. She said the more she talked to neighbors the more she saw that the problem was spreading around Old Greenwich. Shafranek said she was looking forward to hearing what the proposed ordinance would be at a future meeting and hoped it would require pet owners and keepers to take responsibility for their cats by registering them and having them at least vaccinated against rabies.
Perhaps The Board of Selectmen should give some serious thought to the possibility of Haitian illegal aliens making their way to Greenwich while they're at it.
