The Town of Greenwich Department of Public Works (DPW) is hosting a hybrid public hearing on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall Meeting Room and via Zoom to share the ADA accessibility improvements plan for Greenwich Avenue. Improvements will include parking, sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, curbs, landscape beds, and lighting.

Yet, the experts' feedback says Greenwich is in compliance????  Public Works/First Selectman Fred Camillo is asking for $500K that was not budgeted. They have not presented a plan. To date all the intersections on Greenwich Avenue have sloping, red coloring and dotted raised surfaces???

ADA, also known as the American with Disabilities Act, is a set of nationally recognized accessibility standards for people with disabilities. Some of the existing infrastructure on Greenwich Avenue is deficient in accordance with modern ADA design requirements which must be addressed when reconstructing sidewalks or repaving. DPW strives to make Greenwich an accessible place for all.  Project details and Zoom meeting information is available at: Hybrid Public Hearing Notice .

" Intersection Improvement Project" - There are many questions surrounding this project- Why?  What are we trying to fix? Come join and find out what is happening?

A couple of years ago, bumpouts were voted down on Greenwich Avenue.  The police were taken off the Avenue when the Elm Street Bumpout was installed.   At one point the Havemeyer Intersection was going to be torn up moving Arch Street over 50 feet and depleting some of the grass, and large oak trees and upsetting the layout of this historically designated intersection.  An outside engineering firm BETA completed a downtown review and a  a downtown safety analysis showing no problems.  but this issue is resurfacing after the RTM voted down no more bumpouts.  Is this part of Fred's bigger vision on changing historic down town to pedestrian only?  What is his goal?  Why the focus on bumpouts and moving Arch Street?  Why the urgency to sell the gifted BOE building downtown and move out the BOE to expensive leased property?

We encourage you to attend this meeting to ask questions and find out what is really the game plan.
