Board of Selectmen Meeting, June 13, 2024

On Thursday, June 13, 2024, The Board of Selectmen met for their monthly meeting.

Of particular interest in the minutes were the pleas from local landscapers for the same variance that the Board of Selectmen had approved for the Town:

5. Old Business

a. Board decision on proposed Noise Ordinance Variance. Selectwoman

Lauren Rabin read the entire written opinion aloud (a scanned, signed copy of which is posted alongside the minutes online at www.greenwichct.gov) at the meeting

Selectwoman Rabin made a motion to accept the Board’s ruling. It was seconded by Selectperson Stone McGuigan and was approved unanimously. After the vote, First Selectman Camillo said that they understood the concerns of the Town departments that had requested a three-year variance from the leaf blower restrictions and they all wanted to save the taxpayers money. But after consulting with them several times, Camillo said he believes that this is something that can get done in one year, not three, and get everyone on the same page, including landscapers. Camillo said that this was “not an easy transition” and said there are concerns about the lithium batteries used for electric leaf blowers from both Town departments and private landscapers that he said are “legitimate.” He called it a “fair compromise” and “not an easy one” and the intent of the new restrictions is a good one as they work to making sure a fair transition is in place.

We believe Select-Person Janet Stone McGuigan (D) best personifies the hypocrisy of the Board of Selectmen's attempt at fair play for ALL residents.

In agreeing with Selectwoman Lauren Rabin (R), McGuigan stated, "I think this ordinance is fair. The way to be fair with all interested parties is to apply the ordinance fairly."

Interesting.

Perhaps McGuigan, Camillo and Rabin should have this conversation with Geralyn Rubenstein (D), RTM member from District 9. Landscapers have been caught twice that we know of  violating the noise ordinance on a property she manages on Glenville Street. Rubenstein voted "yes" to the noise ordinance banning gas powered leaf blowers prior to Memorial Day through September 30th.
