Submitted by David C. Wold, Greenwich Resident and Veteran:

Hearing the news at the Board of Selectmen meeting this past week, my first thought was, ‘that is a great idea’ but then a second thought came to mind, 'why on earth would Fred place a Statue of him at the WWI monument ?'

We have a monument ‘just up the street’ over the service men who did grow up with the President (and it lists those who did not come home),who served with him during WWII and maybe some served in his administration.

That is where anybody who was born after WWI and served in WWII, Korea or Vietnam should be honored, in my opinion.

Greenwich Post, American Legion at a meeting in the Armory, began a movement to have the honor roll at the Post Office Plaza removed and a monument erected in its place Read .

The idea of  a WWI monument came about from the American Legion (who I understand has been asked to spearhead the support for Fred’s idea) at about the same ‘day’ as the President was ‘conceived’ (and that might have happen in Greenwich Ct.), but he was born in Milton, Maine, so that hardly gives him entitlement of a statue next to the WWI monument , a plaza laid out to honor the service men from WWI, that ended 5 years before he was conceived. There is nothing else that has been proposed in that triangle in the 100 years that have followed (except the MI that Restoration Hardware did and the total redo that DPW wanted to do 2 years ago to accommodate some ADA requirement, that today is not needed).

Records show the older Bush was born June 12th 1924, Milton, Maine.

Just my input.
