Republican Candidate for CT’s 151st District Tod Laudonia hosts fundraiser at the St. Lawrence Society in Cos Cob
Live music played by a solo guitarist filled the room as friends, neighbors, elected officials and interested community members gathered at the historic St. Lawrence Society in Cos Cob on Wednesday evening for a Tod Laudonia campaign fundraiser. Tod has gone on record as the only local candidate who would not be taking the Citizen’s Election Program (CEP) funding. He has previously stated; “I do not believe the government should be involved in financing campaigns with CT tax dollars.”
Tod’s Campaign manager, Joe Montanaro (former Republican Town Committee Vice-Chair), began the evening by acknowledging and thanking all the volunteers who helped put the event together.
Montanaro went on to state that “Connecting with young voters and future leaders is paramount. We have one of those leaders in attendance tonight.” He introduced the newly elected Junior class President at Greenwich High, Gabriel Elezaj. This led to one of the highlights of the evening, a standing ovation for the young man who Montanaro described as “super intelligent and engaging.”
Also, in attendance were Leora Levy (Former RNC National Chairwoman for CT), Republican Candidate for US Congress Dr. Michael Goldstein (fresh off his primary victory), Republican State Senator Ryan Fazio, First Selectman Fred Camillo and Selectwoman Lauren Rabin.
Tod Laudonia then took to the podium and spoke to the energetic crowd. His speech covered many topics, but the focus was on limiting Hartford’s control over Greenwich. He stated “It’s all a matter of Government intrusion. We are all smart enough to run our own lives. We don’t need to be told [what to do] by bureaucrats. That’s not the American way.”
He continued to speak on the major topics of protecting local zoning and keeping education decisions in the hands of local municipalities as well. “Hartford is trying to take over our local zoning, and not just zoning, but education.” Tod added “All of the education funding comes from your tax dollars in the state of Connecticut, and that is all local. So, the control needs to be local.” The crowd applauded loudly.
Tod has repeatedly stated that he wants to return State government back to the days of representing the people, not governing the people. “We are a government of the people, and we have strayed. They want more and more of any power they can get.”
Tod will face off against his opponent, an incumbent Democrat in CT’s 151st District, on November 5th. Early Voting starts on October 21st, and you can request your absentee ballot from the Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall right now online, by phone, in person or by mail.
