Greenwich Public Schools Safety and Security Forum: Panel October 16, 2024

On Wednesday, October 16, Greenwich Public Schools presented a School Safety and Security Forum hosted by Jonathan Soprano, the Director of Communications for Greenwich Public Schools. The event was held at Cos Cob Elementary School and included discussions on various safety topics such as K-12 security, secure entryways, and updated video surveillance systems. The panel included Greenwich Superintendent of Schools Dr. Toni Jones, Greenwich Police Department Chief James Heavey, Greenwich Public Schools Interim Director of School Safety Brent Reeves, and Sgt. John Thorne of the Greenwich Police Department. Dr. Jones emphasized the importance of safety and security in schools and expressed gratitude for the efforts of the panel members in keeping the school district safe. Chief Heavey shared stories illustrating the strong relationship between the police department and the public schools, highlighting initiatives such as the School Resource Officer program, school crossing guards, and school safety patrols. He also mentioned the collaboration between the police and school administration to address challenges and ensure the safety of students and staff.
