MacGillivray: The Soul Of Greenwich Is Ours To Save

By Beth MacGillivray, former Chair of the Greenwich Republican Town Committee

When I stepped down as Chair of our Republican Party, we had restored Republican strength in Greenwich - raising over an outstanding $300,000, winning hard-fought elections with record voter turnout, energizing our base with eager volunteers mobilizing all across town. That teamwork and unity defined us as Greenwich Republicans.

Building on that momentum, we launched a dynamic new website, grew our social media presence exponentially, and earned national recognition from other Republican organizations eager to learn and repeat our success. Our rebranding and outreach resonated far beyond town lines, and it worked because we worked together.

Today that hard-earned progress is under threat. A small group of power-seekers has re-emerged, dividing our party, blocking new ideas, and fostering an atmosphere of disrespect and condescension. This is not just unpleasant- it’s dangerous- because it undermines the integrity and stability, we worked so hard to build.

To understand the stakes, remember what is at play. The BET oversees more than $600 million in taxpayer-funded projects. The Republican Town Committee (RTC) endorses our candidates for public office. These two bodies determine how Greenwich is governed and how your money is spent. When dysfunction seeps in here, our voice weakens opening the door to policies and spending decisions that affect every household.

And dysfunction has indeed seeped in:

  • A BET Chair, Harry Fisher, working hand-in-hand with Democrats;
  • A Republican Chair, Michael Hahn, fostering chaos and hostility within our ranks; and
  • Republican women being disrespected and punished for independent thinking.

There is a proven way forward – and I’ve seen it work. I stand firmly with the hardworking BET team – David Alfano, Nisha Arora, Alessandra Brus, Phil Dodson, John Hopley, Lucia Jansen.

These are the leaders who care about our community, champion public safety, and defend fiscal responsibility. They are the antidote to the chaos.

During my tenure, collaboration was our greatest strength. Nobody had to “drag” us along—we made decisions together, as a team. That spirit is not gone; it can be restored. We’ve done it before, and we can do it again.

So, I am asking you – alongside the thousands of Republicans who still cherish Republican values – to stand up for integrity in Greenwich leadership. Please vote for this BET team of six on September 9th.

The soul of Greenwich is ours to save.
